Avoid a Poor Hair Salon Experience

By

Picking the right salon or hair stylist is crucial to your hair's health and your happiness. You want to find a stylist with ample experience, an artistic eye, and a friendly attitude. You want to be pampered and understood. Your hair is your crowning glory and always in the public eye, right? Have you ever walking into a salon and exited an hour later with the worst cut of your life? Or horrible orangish highlights when you wanted to be beach blonde? It happens every day; don't let it happen to you!

There are several easy ways to spot a less than stellar salon or stylist. Read this article and consider yourself adequately armed in choosing who you want to care for your hair.

1. Salon Decor: What does the building look like? Does is appear cared for? Is it dirty? Is it outdated? If you walk up to the building and notice loose siding, the interior paint is faded and full of nail holes, and there is a layer of grime everywhere... walk right back out.

2.The Stylist: Is he/she well-groomed? Are they dressed appropriately? Do you like their hairstyle or fashion sense? If your stylist has dirty and undone hair, is wearing baggy tapered jeans from 1990 and has Kmart special white tennis shoes on... walk right back out.

3. Scheduling: Was the Salon booked several days in advance? If you were able to get an appointment immediately, there is a reason. And it's probably not a last minute cancel. They lack business because they suck...hang up now!

4. Amenities: Are you offered refreshments while you are waiting? Are the magazines and style books in the lobby worn and frayed? Or worse yet, sticky? (Imagine the busy mom with three boys in need of buzz cuts who are enjoying suckers while waiting their turn.)

5. Fellow Clientele: Are you sitting next to several middle-aged to senior men, who are talking about tractors or the latest Nascar race? Walk right back out... you're in a barber shop.

6. Cost: If the price is too good to be true... walk right back out. Quality haircuts and color adjustments are not cheap.

It boils down to this; if you are not comfortable with anything in connection to your salon or stylist, you will not like how your hair turns out. Your intuition is a strong force and should not be ignored. It's easier to cancel or walk out on an appointment than to wait for your hair to grow back or risk further damage by trying to have color 'fixed'.

Good luck!
